Volunteer of the Month – January

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013 0 COMMENTS

Every month, the Catty Shack Board of Directors decide on a Volunteer of the Month to give an extra special “thank you” to. Every one of our volunteers is special to us and we are thankful for all of them – without our volunteers, Catty Shack would not be where are today! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, check out our volunteer page.

When did you start volunteering at Catty Shack? I started volunteering in August 2012.

How did you start volunteering at Catty Shack? I moved my 88-year-old Mom in with me from North Carolina in the fall of 2011 and we enjoyed shopping in the Catty Shack thrift store and especially meeting Maria. I needed to find things to do with Mom without having to push her everywhere in the wheelchair so this turned out to be a good fit with all concerned. I retired in 2011 as well so we all needed something to do and Maria sure needed the help…it has been a real blessing!

What has been your favorite moment(s) at Catty Shack so far? I have lots of special moments that come to mind. When I think of favorites it would have to be the folks we helped during the Christmas holidays with presents and clothes for their children. One lady in particular had three children, very little money and was referred to us. Between Maria and I, we found nice used clothes, toys, sleeping bags and other things they needed. It really was a heart warming experience and made my Holidays a little nicer.

Thank you, Becky, for everything you do at Catty Shack!
