CZARINA

Czarina was born at Catty Shack Ranch on June 27, 2004. Although Czarina is the usual orange colored tiger, her mother is Nokia, one of our white tigers. As a lifelong resident of the Ranch, Czarina has always enjoyed proper care and nutrition and of course, very much love.

Her name means “Princess” in Russian and she is very much our royal regal princess. Like her mother Nokia, she is a true diva. She acts as if she knows she is special and beautiful and expects all volunteers and visitors to treat her as such. She loves to lie near the front of her enclosure, listening to visitors’ conversations, perhaps interpreting all to be about her and how pretty she is. She coyly hides behind mere blades of grass, peeking out at her admirers, pretending that she can not be seen.

All our tigers love their pools and frequently swim and play in the water. Often they lie in the pool as it is being filled, enjoying the flow of water from the hose as it runs over their body and fills the pool to a level deep enough to float and swim. Czarina tries to indulge in an extra water game – her own version of spa time. If volunteers are rinsing off her feeding platform with a hose from outside her habitat, she likes nothing better than to be sprayed and rinsed also. She will happily roll and beg to have her entire body gently soaked. She is a princess and as such, maybe she thinks she deserves extra pampering.

Being a princess (and a cat), Czarina very much does what Czarina wants to do when Czarina wants to do it. She is notorious for choosing to remain in her lock out den long after her enclosure has been cleaned and long after volunteers have moved on to other duties. Even a treat of chicken which is usually a tempting reward to the other cats after they have moved back home is regally ignored by Czarina. She will calmly and majestically stroll through the lockout gate when she is ready. After she is back home, we close the gate and life goes on.

At Catty Shack Ranch, Czarina enjoys a healthy diet of raw meat with vitamins and supplements appropriate to her species, age and current health conditions. All our animals receive regular veterinary care and are very much loved.
