Girl ScoutsRecently, we had the honor of partnering with Girl Scout Troop 1103 as they worked toward one of their awards. Troop 1103 had just finished their “Get Moving” Journey that focused on utilizing energy within the environment, conserving energy, recycling, and more, when they began thinking about their Bronze Award project. They had recently visited the Ranch during a Night Feeding and earned their “Animal Habitats” badge, so when they read in our newsletter about the Ranch being nominated as a Green Business of the Year (although we didn’t win), they realized there was an opportunity to help us.

Girl ScoutsAfter coordinating with Jordan, our volunteer coordinator, the troop decided to create rain barrels for the Ranch. They purchased large garbage cans, painted them, and inserted spigots and intake lines. The barrels will be installed around the Ranch to collect rainwater that will then be used for a variety of purposes, including cleaning, landscaping, and more.

Girl ScoutsIn accordance with the Bronze Award requirements, the troop also had to raise awareness about their project. During their Spring Cookie Sale, they handed out over 300 flyers for the Ranch! The girls also adopted our foxes (Chula and Tippy) at silver level in honor of the cookie sale mascot, “Luna the Arctic Fox.”

Girl ScoutsWe are thankful these girls decided to spend their time working on a project for Catty Shack! We are so excited about the new rain barrels and love having new friends who share our passion of animals. (Oh, and Tippy and Chula love their new adopters!)
