“The Retreat” Volunteer Group

The Retreat
The Retreat

After a long, busy Halloween Haunted Forest in October, a volunteer group from The Retreat at St. Johns came out to help put away all of our decorations!

We are very thankful to Lauren Kruta and all the volunteers that came out with her – they made light work of a daunting task.

For those of you who don’t know, our Haunted Forest is an annual, two-weekend celebration that is filled with games, crafts, a “haunted” trail, and – of course – tigers, lions, and the rest of our residents! It takes months of planning by our volunteers to make sure everything works together seamlessly. Volunteer groups from around Jacksonville come together to work with our dedicated Catty Shack volunteer team to create our “haunted” trail, decorate under our big tent, and work the weekend. Often, though, the take-down of the Halloween event can be overlooked – so we feel lucky to have such a great group of people come out from The Retreat to make sure we had a little extra helping hand to put everything away!

If you have a volunteer group and would like to schedule a “volunteer day” with us, please contact us!

CFM and Buzz Magazine are great, local Jacksonville companies that have put a lot of time and effort into the Catty Shack Ranch. CFM is a local design agency that has worked with other local groups such as MOSH, Massage Envy, Copelands, and many more! CFM created our new website, which launched at the beginning of 2012. The talented designers at this agency worked tirelessly to create a website that incorporated all the aspects that we hoped for – all while providing for a flexible site design that allows the site to grow.

Buzz Magazine, a local magazine connected to CFM, is a great source of all the events going on in Jacksonville! Iwantabuzz.com is Buzz Magazine’s website that stays up-to-date with upcoming events. Every month, Buzz Magazine helps spread the word about Catty Shack Ranch by their monthly advertisements for the ranch. We are so thankful for Buzz Magazine and CFM! They are great businesses that have worked hard to let Jacksonville residents and visitors know about us!

When visiting Catty Shack, we hope you get a moment to take a look at our “Friends of the Cats” board, highlighting all the businesses that have helped Catty Shack by donating time, services, and/or materials. Please help us in thanking them by using their services whenever applicable. If you have a business and are interested in becoming a “Friend of the Cats” or a corporate sponsor, please contact us.

Volunteer of the Month – October

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 0 COMMENTS

Every month, the Catty Shack Board of Directors decide on a Volunteer of the Month to give an extra special “thank you” to. Every one of our volunteers is special to us and we are thankful for all of them – without our volunteers, Catty Shack would not be where are today! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, check out our volunteer page.

The following is a spotlight on this month’s “Volunteer of the Month.” Enjoy!

LizName: Liz

When did you start volunteering at Catty Shack? I started volunteering in July 2012.

How did you start volunteering at Catty Shack? I first heard about Catty Shack through HandsOn Jacksonville, an online volunteer resource. I learned all about the facility and its residents on the fabulous Catty Shack website and knew I had to be a part of the volunteer team!

What has been your favorite moment(s) at Catty Shack so far? It’s so hard to pick a favorite moment because there are so many great moments, but it would have to be the first time I saw Sarah in her pool. She was almost completely submerged – her ears were flat against her head and just her two wild eyes peeped at me over the rim of the tub. She was stalking me! It was so wonderful to have that interaction with her and to see first hand a tiger’s playful spirit. I will never forget it!

Thanks, Liz, for everything you do at Catty Shack!
