Earlier this month, Santa made a stop in his busy schedule and visited Catty Shack! Kids got the chance to visit with Santa and tell him everything they wanted for Christmas…but the real show-stoppers were our cats and their pumpkins! Every year, we get donated pumpkins that were not bought for Halloween and give them to the big cats as an enrichment activity. While they don’t “eat” the pumpkins like many people believe, they do have a blast chewing on them, hitting them around their enclosures, and dragging them into their pools!

Our animals get various enrichment activities throughout the year, including pumpkins, Christmas trees, birthday “cakes”, blood popsicles, and lots more!

Volunteers of the Year!

Volunteers of the Year

Our 1st Annual Volunteer of the Year award goes to Kurt & Maria!

Kurt is often at the ranch during the week, helping clean animal habitats or working on anything that is asked of him…and if you’re lucky, you’ll have him as your tour guide on one of your tours of the ranch! His vast amount of knowledge may amaze you – he makes every tour special, educational, and fun!

Maria is our Volunteer Thrift Store Manager…she makes the thrift store run professionally and smoothly. Maria goes through the items that are donated to the thrift store and helps sort and display everything. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out our Thrift Store on Oceanway Avenue!

Congratulations, Maria & Kurt! It is a pleasure volunteering with both of you!

“Friends of the Cats” Business Spotlight: A-1 Fence Company

Often, fencing is one of the things that goes unnoticed. Yet, without it, we would be unable to provide a safe and loving home for all of our residents! Fencing is taken for granted by many people – however, placing fencing for our animals is a bit more rigorous than “normal” fences. When building our habitats, we use 9-gauge fencing material that is also partially buried underground to create a more stable habitat. You may also notice the newest habitats are enclosed by 16-foot fencing, which takes a little extra effort to put up – but it’s all worth it when we see the residents love their new homes!

Thankfully, Catty Shack has found a great “friend of the cats” in A-1 Fence Company! Wayne Lee and his great group of workers helped us finish Nokia’s new habitat a few months ago – and she loves it! Building a habitat takes a lot of work, and we feel very lucky to have been able to work with A-1 Fence Company. Next time you are out at Catty Shack, you can see this beautiful new habitat near Tal and Nyra!

Thank you, A-1 Fence Company!

When visiting Catty Shack, we hope you get a moment to take a look at our “Friends of the Cats” board, highlighting all the businesses that have helped Catty Shack by donating time, services, and/or materials. Please help us in thanking them by using their services whenever applicable. If you have a business and are interested in becoming a “Friend of the Cats” or a corporate sponsor, please contact us.
