Boy/Girl Scout Group WorkingBoy/Girl Scout Group Work DayBoy/Girl Scout Group WorkingOn Friday, May 4, Boy Scout Troop #181 and Girl Scout Troop #1294 came out to the Ranch to help with a variety of projects. It was quite a productive day, despite the Florida heat; the troops helped with projects such as fencing, new lights in the back area, and painting (including den boxes and fencing). Thank you to Perry Rider and Teresa Fischer for helping coordinate a work day with these two amazing groups – we appreciate all the work they put in for our residents.

If you are interested in bringing out a group to do a “work day” with Catty Shack, please contact us. Work days are ideal for Girl/Boy Scout Troops, corporate volunteer days, community volunteer groups, and any other type of group you can think of. Our group coordinator will discuss age restrictions, available days/times, available projects, and more with you through e-mail.

Lil Bit’s Birthday

Lil BitMay 3 was Lil Bit’s 11th birthday…and we celebrated in style! For all our cats’ birthdays, we give them a little special treat – a birthday cake. Our cakes are made of ground beef, evaporated milk, and a little blood…just the thing to get them excited for their special day.

You can see an up-close-and-personal video of Lil Bit enjoying her cake here.

Volunteer of the Month – May

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 0 COMMENTS

Every month, the Catty Shack Board of Directors decide on a Volunteer of the Month to give an extra special “thank you” to. Every one of our volunteers is special to us and we are thankful for all of them – without our volunteers, Catty Shack would not be where are today! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, check out our volunteer page.

The following is a spotlight on this month’s “Volunteer of the Month”. Enjoy!

MattName: Matt

Time Volunteered at Catty Shack: I began volunteering at Catty Shack in the Fall of 2011. I came out as a visitor for a Friday Night Feeding in October and knew for sure that I wanted to work at the ranch as soon as I saw what Catty Shack was all about and saw all of the amazing residents. I then attended the November Volunteer Meeting and started right away.

How did you start volunteering at Catty Shack? I first learned of Catty Shack from a local Veterinary Technician, who was telling me about some of the local organizations in the area that needed volunteer assistance.

What has been your favorite moment(s) at Catty Shack so far? While it’s hard to pick just one, my favorite moment at the Ranch was probably working at the 2011 Roar-n-Snore. Good people, good food, bonfire, and of course all the residents – fun time!

Thanks, Matt, for everything you do at Catty Shack!

Help Us Win New Kitty Kabins

Monday, May 14th, 2012 0 COMMENTS

Hercules on Kitty KabinCommunity First Credit Union is hosting their “Invested in You” contest! Groups across Jacksonville have been submitting ideas to improve our community. Ideas are voted on (this is where you come in!) and top ideas are then reviewed by a panel. Winning submissions receive a $1,000 grant.

Catty Shack has submitted an idea to help build new “Kitty Kabins” for our cats. We are hoping to use the money to build a huge kabin and some platforms for our cubs so they will have plenty of space to lounge on.

There are only a few more days left of voting; please help us get to the top spot! You can only vote once per email address, so it will only take a few seconds of your time.

New & Updated Enclosures

New Enclosure

New PlatformsKitty KabinThe cubs are starting to get big and they’ll be moving into their new home soon – that means we have to make sure everything’s in place so they can make themselves at home. To make sure everything is ready for the new residents, Wayne Lee and the A-1 Fence Company have been working tirelessly to get the fencing up around the new enclosure. Check out the new habitat next time you’re out at the Ranch for a tour – you’ll see it by Tal and Nyra’s enclosure.

Our wonderful volunteers have also been working hard to make a new Kitty Kabin for Lex and Tamara and new platforms for Long Tail and No Tail. Our volunteers work hard to make sure our residents have the best den boxes, houses, and platforms possible – it’s a lot of work, but all the animals love when they get new “digs”. We always need volunteers, so if you’re interested in helping build platforms like these (or to do the many other jobs around the Ranch), please check out our “Volunteering” page! We also want to build new Kitty Kabins for many of our residents – if you or your company are interested in sponsoring one, please contact us.
