Often, fencing is one of the things that goes unnoticed. Yet, without it, we would be unable to provide a safe and loving home for all of our residents! Fencing is taken for granted by many people – however, placing fencing for our animals is a bit more rigorous than “normal” fences. When building our habitats, we use 9-gauge fencing material that is also partially buried underground to create a more stable habitat. You may also notice the newest habitats are enclosed by 16-foot fencing, which takes a little extra effort to put up – but it’s all worth it when we see the residents love their new homes!

Thankfully, Catty Shack has found a great “friend of the cats” in A-1 Fence Company! Wayne Lee and his great group of workers helped us finish Nokia’s new habitat a few months ago – and she loves it! Building a habitat takes a lot of work, and we feel very lucky to have been able to work with A-1 Fence Company. Next time you are out at Catty Shack, you can see this beautiful new habitat near Tal and Nyra!

Thank you, A-1 Fence Company!

When visiting Catty Shack, we hope you get a moment to take a look at our “Friends of the Cats” board, highlighting all the businesses that have helped Catty Shack by donating time, services, and/or materials. Please help us in thanking them by using their services whenever applicable. If you have a business and are interested in becoming a “Friend of the Cats” or a corporate sponsor, please contact us.

Volunteer of the Month – November (Pt. 3)

Sunday, December 9th, 2012 0 COMMENTS

Every month, the Catty Shack Board of Directors decide on a Volunteer of the Month to give an extra special “thank you” to. This past month, we had three awesome volunteers who “tied” for volunteer of the month! Below, read about Ann – one of November’s winners! Laura and Jake’s bios (our two other winners) were previously posted.

Every one of our volunteers is special to us and we are thankful for all of them – without our volunteers, Catty Shack would not be where are today! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, check out our volunteer page.

When did you start volunteering at Catty Shack? I’ve been at Catty Shack since May 2009.

How did you start volunteering at Catty Shack? I’d heard of Catty Shack and wanted an ‘animal involved’ volunteer activity to fill the time previously spent with my mare, Sidra, who’d passed away the year prior. Kim gave me a tour during one of the public events. Of course, I was enamored by the cats – their beauty, their closeness to the public, the cleanliness of their habitats, the love they gave and received from Kim. Then I saw the horses at the Ranch and had to meet them! Lucy greeted Kim and me. When Lucy put her head on my shoulder, I knew I’d found my niche! I could make a difference for the horses as well as help with the cats. Although today I spend much more time with the cats (and honoraries), Lucy knows exactly where she stands in my heart.

What has been your favorite moment(s) at Catty Shack so far? There have been many favorite moments at Catty Shack. Sarah was the first rescued cat received after I joined the Ranch. Spike and Spiderman taught me not to put the hose directly into an enclosure to fill the pool. Tucker and Al impressed me with their agility and speed the first time I saw a feeding. Nyra played like a domestic cat chasing a rake as we cleaned next door. Talking to Hercules makes anyone feel better. The 5 cubs are the first babies I’ve helped raise and been able to watch grow. Leading tours, sharing our animals and building an appreciation for the cats is so rewarding. I still experience a ‘pinch me, this is real moment’ every time we fill a pool and a grateful tiger hops into the tub, looking at you with happy content eyes. I’ve made a tiger happy and he/she is really this close to me (through the fence)!

Thank you, Ann, for everything you do at Catty Shack!

When did you start volunteering at Catty Shack? December 2011

How did you start volunteering at Catty Shack? I came out to the 2011 Fall Roar N’ Snore and had such an enjoyable time that I wanted to help out any way possible.

What has been your favorite moment(s) at Catty Shack so far? The most enjoyable thing so far has been the interaction with the guests during the Haunted Forest. After being at the Ranch all week helping to set up, there’s nothing like scaring a kid in the Forest, then immediately having them ask to have their picture taken with me in my costume (see the photo to the right to see the costume!)

Thanks, Jake, for everything you do at Catty Shack!

November Roar N’ Snore Recap

Roar N Snore
FireCampsite

The November Roar N’ Snore was another great success! About 70 guests joined us for a spectacular evening with the cats.

Guests began their adventure by setting up their campsites on Saturday evening, then enjoying the afternoon wandering through the animal habitats. All campsites were located at the back of the property, near the habitats of lions, tigers, bobcats, and cougars! In the evening, had a delicious dinner, seasoned with Martha’s Mix – a seasoning that not only creates wonderful food, but for every bottle sold, it helps hungry children through the “Blessings in a Backpack” charity!

The rest of the evening included a night feeding of our animals, a bonfire (that lasted all night long!), a surprise movie, and s’mores. Before leaving in the morning, all guests were treated to breakfast – the best ending to an exciting camp-out.

More photos of the November Roar N’ Snore can be found here.

We hope all our guests had a great time during our Roar N’ Snore…we know our cats loved it! Our next Roar N’ Snore camp-out will be in April 2013 – so mark your calendars now!
