We Welcome a New Resident! You Can Help Name Him!

white nosed coatimundi
Catty Shack Ranch has a new resident! He is a white-nosed coatimundi that had been a private pet. He was born in early June and has grown a lot since arriving at the Ranch at 8 weeks old.

When he first arrived, we kept him in isolation to protect him and all our other animals. He received vaccinations and vet check-ups just like a puppy or kitten. Now that he is bigger, he lives in the enclosure near Khala Hala and BJ, the leopards. He’ll be neutered when he’s about 6 months old. Ultimately, he may be introduced to Callie, our other coatimundi, to see if they can live together.

He loves to climb and explore his new home, burrowing in his blankets and hunting for delicious insects. He eats raw meat, veggies and lots of fruit. He enjoys cookies and marshmallows as treats, of course.

We’re holding a contest to name our cute new arrival! The fee to submit a name is $10 per name. The winner will receive a photo of the baby coati and a Family VIP Pass for 4 to the Ranch. Best of all, the winner will have bragging rights – how many people have had the honor of naming a coatimundi?!

Come meet our new baby!

Help us name him!

Here’s how it works: Each name suggestion is $5.00. All proceeds go back to our residents at the ranch (for habitats, toys, food, etc.). You may submit as many names as you would like until December 15. After December 15, our Board of Directors and volunteers will meet to decide the final name. As soon as it is agreed upon, we will announce his new name!

Good luck!

**The contest has ended. Please stay tuned for the announcement of the winning name submission!

Good News for Topaz!

Saturday, October 10th, 2015 0 COMMENTS

Topaz, barely awake.

Topaz, our beloved Golden Tabby tiger has good news to share. She visited SEVO (Southeast Veterinary Oncology and Internal Medicine) Clinic in Orange Park for a 6 month checkup following her radiation treatments earlier in 2015. Great News! She remains in complete remission from her lymphoma!

While there is no cure for lymphoma, her condition is managed by monthly chemotherapy doses. Earlier this year, she received radiation treatments on her foot, where the cancer had manifested itself. She also had surgery to remove damaged tissue and to amputate a damaged toe by Affiliated Veterinary Services. She healed beautifully and walks, once again, with a normal gait!

Come visit Topaz and her best friend, Binky. They have moved to the back of the Ranch next to our royal lion couple, Tal and Nyra.

Once again, thank you to all our friends at SEVO, AVS, and in the local veterinary community for all your care for our animals. We (and the animals) so appreciate your help!

If you would like to help donate to Topaz’s treatment, you can donate online.

You can also adopt Topaz online!

Thank you for everyone’s support! #TeamTopaz

October Birthdays and Anniversaries

Thursday, October 1st, 2015 0 COMMENTS

Topaz, head shot.

We have only one October celebrant. Topaz, our Golden Tabby tiger celebrates her birthday on October 1. Our beloved diva is 16 years old and will enjoy her special birthday cake made of ground meat and evaporated milk. All birthdays and anniversaries are special days and this event is ever so sweet given Topaz’s current status as in remission from lymphoma.

You can adopt Topaz online!

There are no residents with October arrival anniversaries. Stay tuned for November and December as we have many birthdays and anniversaries to celebrate.

Happy Birthday Topaz!
