Wednesday Night Feedings Continue!

Thursday, April 21st, 2016 0 COMMENTS

Catty Shack Ranch is excited to announce that we will continue to host alternating Wednesday night feeding events! The April dates are April 6 and April 20.

The crowds are a little smaller (for now) and this is the perfect opportunity for midweek out-of-town visitors to watch our cats make 600 pounds of meat disappear quickly.

The gates open at 6:00pm with the feeding beginning at 7:30pm. Last admission is at 7:15pm. We encourage you to arrive before 6:30pm to benefit from an educational tour and introduction to our residents and to have time to enjoy the animals and be in place before the feeding frenzy begins. Admission is $15.00 for visitors ages 12 and over, $10.00 for kids ages 3 through 11, 2 years and under admitted for free.

Note that the Wednesday events are NOT every week.  Please consult our website or Facebook page for exact dates.

The cats are hungry! Come watch them eat!

In Loving Memory of Apache

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2016 4 COMMENTS

On Thursday February 25, we said goodbye to Apache, one of our beloved cougars. He was almost 18 years old, having been born in July, 1998 and he had enjoyed life at Catty Shack Ranch since 2010. He relished the special attention loving volunteers gave to him. Many of us spent extra time with him, talking to him and enjoying his deep purring response. As with many wild animals, although he was aging and slowing down, he enjoyed life and ate well up to the very end and died peacefully in his sleep.

Apache had the most beautiful expressive eyes. Visitors and volunteers were captivated by his handsome face. He was a wise and calm presence in our cougar area.

Apache, you’re now free to rest in peace. Close those big beautiful eyes and know that you are dearly loved and very much missed, special boy.

January Anniversaries

Brie, female Siberian tiger

We love to celebrate the birthdays and arrival anniversaries of all the animals who reside with us at Catty Shack Ranch.  Our records do not indicate that we have any January birthday honorees.

We have many January arrival anniversaries to celebrate!  We’ll never forget January 15, 2013 when six tigers arrived in sunny Florida from 5 degree weather in Wisconsin.  The 3 “Cheeseheads”, Colby, Brie and Monterey were 6 weeks old and weighed only 9 to 11 pounds.  The youngsters, the “Fluffies”, Star, Sprout and Runty sported thick, luxurious fur coats (and a layer of body fat!) suitable for keeping them warm in cold weather.  What changes we’ve watched as they all have grown and thrived in our loving care!Tal, male African lion

Long Tail and No Tail, two of the cougars, arrived on January 19, 2001.  They enjoy sunning themselves on their platforms and watching over their cougar and horse pasture neighbors.

On January 29, 2008, Tal the lion arrived.  He reigns majestically over the back area of the Ranch, taking care of his beloved lady, Nyra.

Come visit the Ranch and celebrate all these animals’ anniversaries.  We love you Colby, Brie, Monterey, Star, Sprout, Runty, Long Tail, No Tail and Tal

Our New Coatimundi Has a Name!

Monday, December 21st, 2015 0 COMMENTS

Congratulations to Cathy C. and Julie T. for both suggesting the winning name submission! You own the bragging rights! Our new coatimundi, now 7 months old, has been named “Cody”! Cody and Callie…that has a nice ring to it! We want to thank everyone for their suggestions and for your support of our mission!

If you did not read the original article, Cody is a white-nosed coatimundi that had been a private pet. He was born in early June and has grown a lot since arriving at the Ranch at 8 weeks old.

When he first arrived, we kept him in isolation to protect him and all our other animals. He received vaccinations and vet check-ups just like a puppy or kitten. Now that he is bigger, he lives in the enclosure near Khala Hala and BJ, the leopards. He’ll be neutered when he’s about 6 months old. Ultimately, he may be introduced to Callie, our other coatimundi, to see if they can live together.

He loves to climb and explore his new home, burrowing in his blankets and hunting for delicious insects. He eats raw meat, veggies and lots of fruit. He enjoys cookies and marshmallows as treats, of course.

Come meet our new baby!
